Martin J. Gavin, President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gavin is President & Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Prior to being named on May 11, 2006, he served as interim President and CEO since January 6, 2006. In addition, Mr. Gavin also serves as the President of Connecticut Children's corporate board of directors and CEO of Connecticut Children's Foundation board of directors. Previously, he served as a member of the board of directors of the Medical Center and its predecessor, Newington Children's Hospital, from 1989 to 2000. He was chairman of the board when Connecticut Children's opened on April 2, 1996, and also served as chair of the building committee during the construction of the hospital.
Previously an executive with more than 27 years of experience in the insurance and investment industries, Mr. Gavin worked for 16 years at the Phoenix Companies, in Hartford, retiring in 2000. While at the Phoenix, he held various positions, including Senior Vice President of Phoenix Home Life, Executive Vice President of its investment subsidiaries, and President of its national trust company. Prior to joining the Phoenix, he worked at CNA Insurance Companies, Chicago, Illinois, as head of its pension and institutional asset management division. Mr. Gavin began his career at CIGNA.
Active in the community, Mr. Gavin currently serves on the boards of trustees at Connecticut Health Foundation, Connecticut Hospital Association and Saint Joseph College.
Mr. Gavin is a 1972 graduate of the University of Connecticut and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum.
Gerald J. Boisvert, CPA, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Boisvert is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Connecticut Children's Medical Center and Connecticut Children's Medical Center Corporation, and Treasurer of Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation. He has served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since 1997.
Prior to joining the Medical Center, Mr. Boisvert was Vice President & CFO at US HomeCare Corporation from 1996 to 1997. He was employed by the Windham Community Memorial Hospital in Willimantic, Connecticut, as Senior Vice President of Finance from 1992 to 1996.
He formerly served in a volunteer capacity as the President of the Southside Institution Neighborhood Alliance (SINA) and Chairman of the Learning Corridor Corporation.
Mr. Bosivert is a Certified Health Care Professional (CHFP) and Fellow of the Health Care Financial Management Association (FHFMA), and is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He is also a member of the Committee on Hospital Finance of The Connecticut Hospital Association. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Boston University School of Management.
Paul Dworkin, MD, Physician-in-Chief Dr. Dworkin is Physician-in-Chief at Connecticut Children's and Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Dworkin was the 2003 recipient of the C. Anderson Aldrich Award, given by the American Academy of Pediatric's Developmental Pediatrics section. Past winners of this award for work in childhood development include Dr. Benjamin Spock and Dr. T. Berry Brazelton. Dr. Dworkin is a member of numerous professional societies including the Academic Pediatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, and the American Board of Pediatrics. He was the Editor of the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics from 1997 to 2002. He is a member of the Board of Directors of numerous organizations, including the Connecticut Children's Trust Fund. He is a member of the first entering class of the Academy of Distinguished Educators of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Dr. Dworkin received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed a pediatric residency and subsequently completed a fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital in Boston, with a special emphasis on developmental and behavioral issues.
Fernando Ferrer, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief Dr. Ferrer is the Surgeon-in-Chief at Connecticut Children's, Co-Chair of Connecticut Children's Specialty Group, and the Director of the Department of Pediatric Urology. He is also an Associate Professor of Urologic Surgery & Oncology at University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Dr. Ferrer joined the Medical Center in 2001.
A native of Passaic, NJ, Dr. Ferrer received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He went on to serve in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant and medical diving officer. He completed his urologic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and his fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was an instructor of urology. Dr. Ferrer is nationally recognized for his work in cancer research and gene therapy. He has published over 40 articles and numerous book chapters devoted to these and other subjects.
Martha Schall, President, Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation Inc. Martha Schall is President of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation Inc. In addition to directing the philanthropic activities in support of the Medical Center, she is responsible for the Medical Center's internal and external communications programs. Before joining Connecticut Children's, Martha was the associate vice president for medical development at Yale University. This role was preceded by almost two decades of increasing responsibilities within Yale University's Office of Development, including serving as managing director of the Yale Alumni Fund and director of individual giving for the University. Earlier in her career Martha worked in brokerage and investment banking in New York. She earned her MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business and her BA from Yale University
Ann Taylor, JD, Senior Vice President and General Counsel Ms. Taylor is Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Connecticut Children's. In her role, she is responsible for legal affairs, government relations, corporate compliance and risk management. Formerly Vice President and Government Affairs Counsel at Fleet Bank, Taylor also represented credit unions and the American Banker's Association in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Taylor currently serves on the boards of the Children's Fund of CT, the Child Health and Development Institute, the National Association of Children's Hospitals Public Policy Council, the MetroHartford Alliance Legislative Affairs Council and is a past chair of the Foodshare Board. An appointee to the Fleet Community Oversight Committee, the state Ethics Commission and the Judicial Review Council, Taylor currently sits on the Connecticut Hospital Association Committee on Government and the state Criminal Justice Commission.
Ms. Taylor is a graduate of Catholic University and Western New England School of Law.
Robert Englander, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety Robert Englander is Senior Vice President for Quality and Patient Safety at Connecticut Children's. In his position, Dr. Englander provides operational, administrative and strategic leadership for the Medical Center's quality and performance improvement, patient safety, peer review and medical staff credentialing activities.
Dr. Englander came to Connecticut Children's in 2002 from the Divisions of Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Education at the University of Maryland Medical System. Since then he has effectively led the development of the Medical Center's hospitalist service and strengthened inpatient services through multidisciplinary collaboration as the director of the Division of Hospital Medicine. He also led the design and implementation of competencies for postgraduate medical education as associate director of the Pediatric Residency Program from 2002-2007.
Dr. Englander received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale University where he also received his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. He earned a master's degree of public health in epidemiology from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Englander completed his pediatric residency at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and completed his fellowship in pediatric and neonatal critical care at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is board-certified in pediatrics and is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Theresa Hendricksen, RN, MS, FACHE, Senior Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer Ms. Hendricksen is Senior Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Connecticut Children's. She is responsible for leadership for all nursing services and supervision of ancillary clinical services, such as pharmacy, radiology, nutrition and family support.
Ms. Hendricksen has been with Connecticut Children's from the time of its opening in 1996, coming from Hartford Hospital where she was a nurse manager since 1990. She was part of the Connecticut Children's Operations Redesign Team from 1997-1998, which restructured and implemented new ideas for expansion and development in all departments of the Medical Center. She has also served Connecticut Children's in the capacity of director of medical surgical nursing and materials management.
Ms. Hendricksen received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and a master's degree in health care management from the University of Connecticut. She is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives.
Dean Rapoza, President, Connecticut Children's Specialty Group and Vice President of Connecticut Children's Medical Center Mr. Rapoza is the senior administrative executive for this 20 specialty pediatric group practice owned by Connecticut Children's. The Faculty Practice Plan (FPP) employs over 110 physicians and 55 other health care providers. In addition to its offices at the hospital, FPP provides care at patient care centers throughout Connecticut. Its providers deliver over 175,000 patient visits each year in both outpatient and hospital settings.
Mr. Rapoza has held this position since 1996. In that time, the FPP has grown 400%. Prior to his tenure at Connecticut Children's, Mr. Rapoza was Chief Administrative Officer at PATHwise Behavioral Health and held several management positions at ConnectiCare.
He earned a Master's in Business Administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree from Brown University.
Elizabeth Rudden, Vice President, Human Resources Betsy Rudden, is Vice President, Human Resources at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. She is responsible for hiring and retaining talent, organizational development, succession planning, change facilitation, compensation and benefits. She is a member of the Executive Management Team.
Betsy moved to Connecticut Children’s after a 23-year career at The Phoenix Companies where she last served as Vice President for the Center for Transformation and Growth. In this role she worked closely with executive management to guide them through developing and implementing a comprehensive Lean program. Prior to this she held the position of Vice President, Human Resources. At Phoenix Investment Partners, a subsidiary, she was Vice President, Human Resources and Vice President, Field and Investor Services.
In addition to her board position at the YWCA, she is a Corporator at the American School for the Deaf after serving several years as a Board member. Betsy was recently asked to join the Leaders Circle at Saint Joseph College. The Leaders Circle is a group of professional women who will advise the school on their Leadership Studies program and participate in leadership events. She is a graduate of Becker College in Worcester, MA, is a lifetime resident of Connecticut and currently lives in Farmington.
Donald W Hight, MD, President, Connecticut Children's Medical Staff Donald W. Hight, MD, is the director of the Department of General Surgery and president of the medical staff at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Dr. Hight has been with Connecticut Children’s since its opening in 1996. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the Harvard University School of Medicine. Dr. Hight completed his surgerical residency at Peter Bent Brigham. He also completed pediatric surgerical fellowships at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Scotland, and at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
Dr. Hight is board-certified in surgery and pediatric surgery, and is Professor of surgery at the University Of Connecticut School Of Medicine. He has developed the Center for Chest Wall Deformities, treating pediatric patients with pectus excavatum and carinatum growth abnormalities. Approximately 200 patients have undergone the newest techniques of surgical correction along with programs for non operative treatment. He is currently Director of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, with a staff of four additional surgeons whose interests include basic and clinical research, and nationwide cooperative studies related to injury prevention and teenage morbid obesity.

Kelly R. Styles, Vice President and Chief Information Officer Kelly R. Styles is the vice president and chief information officer for Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Styles provides oversight for all information technology decision making and evaluation at Connecticut Children's, focusing especially on improving timely access to relevant information in support of the Medical Center's strategic goals. He also is responsible for increasing the access that clinical and business departments have to meaningful electronic data and reports by guiding the selection and implementation of information systems, and working to ensure that those systems are integrated into functional processes.
Before joining Connecticut Children's, Styles worked at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C., where as chief information officer, he was responsible for all corporate information technology activities across 38 individual clinical facilities and administrative offices located in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. He also served in the United States Air Force for 14 years, where he developed and utilized various technologies in support of the Air Force's analytical capabilities.
Styles received associate's degrees in general studies from the University of Maryland University College and in communications technology from the Community College of the Air Force. He received his bachelor's degree in computer science from Mississippi State University and a master's degree in management information systems from the University of Dallas. Styles is a member of numerous professional organizations including the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
