The Asthma Center at Connecticut Children’s focuses on advancing pediatric asthma care through its nationally recognized Easy Breathing© program. Easy Breathing is a community-based asthma management program that translates the national asthma guidelines into a usable format for pediatricians and other health care providers. The Easy Breathing program ensures that children, families and physicians work together to manage asthma symptoms.
In 1998, Connecticut Children’s introduced the Easy Breathing program to pediatricians in the Hartford area. The program is now used by more than 330 pediatricians in nearly 100 practices across Connecticut and has more than 110,000 children enrolled.
In 2012, Easy Breathing reached a milestone when Connecticut Children’s enrolled the 100,000 patient in the program and was honored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2012 National Environmental Leadership Award in Asthma Management, in recognition of 14 years of dedicated work to improve asthma management and outcomes for children.
Connecticut Children’s Asthma Center provides the tools and training that primary care practices need to administer Easy Breathing. Through onsite and web-based training by Connecticut Children’s staff, primary care providers can learn how to provide better asthma care to children.
