Friendly Staff

The Elite Sports Medicine team was founded in February 2006, at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center as the inspiration of Doctors Len Banco, Jeff Thomson and others who realized the increasing importance of sports medicine care in the adolescent and young adults of today. The program is built on the premise that sports injuries and rehabilitation are by necessity multi-disciplinary and that in many instances the injuries in young student-athletes can be prevented.

The center currently coordinates the care of a local college and several local high schools and AAU programs.

Soccer

Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the United States. More and more young athletes are playing soccer more today than ever. With the increase of players comes the increase in soccer injuries. Soccer is a fast paced sport that leads to collisions between players with very little padding. Some of the more common injuries associated with soccer are concussion, knee injury, ankle sprains, contusions, sprains, strains and fractures.

Research

Elite Sports Medicine has as its central focus the prevention and care of student athletes between the ages of ten and thirty. Medicine is not as developed in the realm of preventative medical care as it is about caring for injuries. It is our hope that we can address this issue and develop our potential for preventing injuries with laboratory, clinical, and epidemiological studies.
