School on Wheels

Staffed by a certified teacher, School on Wheels is an educational service that provides tutoring and academic enrichment to children who are inpatients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. When requested and appropriate, the CCMC School educational liaison will contact a child’s school to develop an individualized academic program during hospitalization and a transition plan at discharge.

The School on Wheels teacher provides academic instruction for grades K-12 in several areas: reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, English, and handwriting using the texts and/or materials provided by the student’s home school as appropriate.
