Neurosurgery

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provides comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery services to children of all ages including the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. In a patient- and family-centered environment, our board certified neurosurgeons use a team approach to care for children affected by common and complex neurologic disorders,
such as:

  • Neuro-trauma
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Brain and spinal cord tumors
  • Vascular malformations
  • Congenital cranial and spinal disorders

Our top neurosurgeons use the most advanced techniques and technologies to provide diagnoses and therapy, including intra-operative electrophysiologic monitoring and computer-assisted neuro-navigation. Whenever possible, Connecticut Children’s pediatric neurosurgeons use minimally invasive surgical techniques such as neuro-endoscopy to treat neonatal patients, infants, children and teens.

Surgery and Your Child

For children requiring neurosurgery, we work closely with anesthesiology and the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to provide the finest pre- and post-operative care to every child. Infants and children undergoing brain or spinal surgery are assigned nurses who have been specifically trained in caring for young patients, with extensive classroom and clinical training. For our smallest patients, newborns and infants are cared for in our state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at Hartford Hospital and the University of Connecticut Health Center.
