Depending on your child’s unique medical needs, our rheumatologists may consult with a variety of specialists from allergy and immunology, cancer and blood diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, nutrition, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, and pulmonary medicine.

Sedation and pain management

Our rheumatology specialists work closely with experts in the department of pain and palliative medicine to provide the necessary sedation services to relieve a child’s pain during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as joint injections, lumbar punctures, and muscle and skin biopsies. The sedation team is a multidisciplinary group with expertise in pediatric sedation. The team works with your child’s physician to provide sedation in a safe and effective manner.

Shriners Hospitals for Children—Springfield

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has formed a relationship with Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield, Massachusetts. This affiliation will allow both hospitals to combine clinical resources to expand pediatric services to children throughout New England. Rheumatology is Connecticut Children’s first subspecialty to expand into Massachusetts, offering children with a range of rheumatic conditions exceptional care close to home.
