Dr. Matson is actively involved in basic science immunology research aimed at identifying maternal factors responsible for influencing the development of allergic diseases in offspring. A particular focus has been to identify maternal-placental-fetal immune mechanisms that contribute to this process. He has served as principal investigator and collaborator/physician-scientist on grants from the American Lung Association, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. He is also interested in studying the immunologic processes that regulate intestinal health in premature and full-term infants.
