Why Join Our Team

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center is one of just two freestanding children’s hospitals in New England, and the only one in Connecticut. Established on a legacy that spans more than 100 years, Connecticut Children’s continued growth and clinical programs that are named among the “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report is evidence of our world-class medical care, leading academic research and superior education and training.

Our Culture

Connecticut Children’s is a dynamic environment where employees are challenged and rewarded every day. We believe that top quality medical treatment for children is valuable only when accompanied by the compassion for patients, families, peers, and partners in care that our employees exemplify. Connecticut Children’s pursues the highest standards and best outcomes in everything we do, always working with a team mentality to achieve the greatest success.

Beyond being one of the Northeast’s leading pediatric medical centers with state-of-the-art facilities such as our Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and two regional referral neonatal intensive care units (Level 3 and Level 4), and a highly skilled team of board certified physicians that spans a broad spectrum of medical specialties, Connecticut Children’s is much more. We are the primary teaching hospital and research facility for the University of Connecticut School of Medicine department of pediatrics. We are a proponent of preventive care and community child health and wellness, serving to make not only our visitors healthy, but all children in Connecticut. We are a not-for-profit organization that puts all of its resources toward supporting our mission to improve the physical and emotional health of all children.

Rewards & Recognition

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center recognizes all employees with traditional compensation as well as other benefits that contribute to a positive work environment and professional experience. We foster physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through programs that support healthy lifestyles, and organize several events throughout the year to reward our employees including offsite activities, bus trips and peer recognition ceremonies.

Honors & Accolades

Connecticut Children’s many awards for clinical excellence and employee programs reaffirm our commitment to our patients, families and staff. Several of Connecticut Children’s clinical programs have time and again earned national and international honors and accolades, including U.S. News & World Report “Best Children’s Hospital” rankings.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Employees can set aside earnings on a pre-tax basis in a flexible spending account to pay for certain out-of-pocket health expenses and dependent care services costs.

Group Life Insurance

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provides group life insurance at no cost to employees. The amount of coverage is dependent upon the employee’s job category. Employees can purchase additional life insurance for themselves, spouse, domestic partner or dependent children.

Supplemental Life Insurance

Universal life (UL) policies for self, spouse or dependent children are available at the employee’s expense beginning after three months of employment.

Paid Time Off

We offer a flexible approach to paid time off (PTO), to be used for vacation, sick, holiday and personal days. Employees accrue PTO beginning the first pay period. Additional PTO hours are accrued weekly during the year based on number of years of employment and job category.

Extended Illness Program

Our extended illness program (EIP) provides 100 percent income replacement for extended personal illnesses. Employees accrue time weekly, beginning the first pay period. This program coordinates with short term and long term disability coverage.

Short Term Disability Protection

Employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week are eligible to purchase short term disability protection. Short term protection provides up to 60 percent of salary, up to $1,500 per week, for disability leave up to 90 days.

Long Term Disability Protection

Children’s provides long term disability insurance for full-time, Modified Work Week (MWW) and Weekend Only (WKO) employees. The protection plan pays up to 60 percent of salary, up to $12,500 per month, beginning after a 90 day period of disability leave.

Retirement Savings Plan

Connecticut Children’s sponsors a 403(b) savings plan comprised of three components:

1. Employee contributions (up to the IRS maximum annually)
2. Employer matching contributions at 100 percent on the first three percent of pay and 50 percent on the next two percent of pay
3. Annual core contribution

The annual core contribution is tiered based on the sum of an employee’s age and years of service. Employees must work 1,000 hours each calendar year to be eligible for the core contribution. All employees hired after January 1, 2010 are automatically enrolled in the retirement savings plan.

Tuition Reimbursement

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center encourages continuous learning and development. We offer tuition reimbursement up to $5,000 each academic year to employees working 20 or more hours per week (pro-rated for part-time employees). Employees are eligible after a six month waiting period.
