Una fractura en tallo verde es una fractura de un hueso. El hueso solo se quiebra por un lado, pero la fractura no atraviesa todo el hueso. Se denomina fractura “en tallo verde” porque se parece a las ramas que se quiebran o astillan por un lado.
La mayoría de las fracturas en tallo verde ocurren en niños menores de diez años porque sus huesos son más blandos y más flexibles que los de los adultos.
En los adolescentes y los adultos, la lesión puede quebrar el hueso de lado a lado. Pero en los niños, el hueso solo se quiebra por un lado.
Las fracturas en tallo verde suelen ocurrir cuando un niño se cae y estira una mano para frenar la caída.
En general, los especialistas en ortopedia tratan este tipo de fracturas con una escayola.
