Nationally Recognized Cardiac Surgeon Dennis Mello, MD Returns to Connecticut Children’s, Offering Unparalleled Heart Expertise Close to Home

HARTFORD, CONN. – Connecticut Children’s Medical Center welcomes back nationally recognized pediatric cardiac surgeon Dennis M. Mello, MD as Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery for the organization. Dr. Mello will lead a revitalized pediatric cardiac surgery program at Connecticut Children’s designed to provide the highest quality care to patients with congenital heart disease in Connecticut and beyond.
Dr. Mello brings specialized expertise and experience in several key areas, including managing congenital heart disease surgery of single ventricle surgery, transposition of great arteries and low birth weight neonatal cardiac surgery. He started March 1st.

Dr. Mello previously served as Director of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Floating Hospital for Children’s at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. Prior to that, he was the Chief of Pediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in Jefferson, LA. A native New Englander, he also has prior experience working at five Connecticut hospitals, including Connecticut Children’s!

Dr. Mello earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut. He completed his postgraduate training in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco.
