Dental Care

Dentist with patientThe pediatric dental specialists at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center provide a comprehensive array of dental services from routine preventive care to highly specialized care for children from infancy to 18 years of age.

We specialize in long-term care for the teeth, mouth and jaws of children who have special needs, developmental delays and behavioral problems, and complex medical conditions. Pediatric dentists have an extra two to three years of specialized training after dental school and are best qualified to meet children’s unique needs.

Connecticut Children’s dental experts are all faculty of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Each is specially trained to provide diagnostic, preventive and restorative dental treatment, along with surgical dental procedures to all children, especially those who may not have access to regular dental care.

Our services include:

  • Infant care exams
  • Extractions
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Oral & maxillofacial surgery
  • Space maintenance
  • General care and cleaning
  • Care for broken teeth caused by trauma
  • Restorative care
  • Abscess and infection treatment
  • Dental care education for children and parents
  • Minor orthodontics
  • Treatment under general anesthesia

Our pediatric dentists take a multidisciplinary approach to treating all children, in particular those who have complex medical conditions. Consultations and collaboration with other Connecticut Children’s physicians and specialists allow us to provide the most comprehensive and coordinated care available.

Connecticut Children’s also provides dental consultations to patients admitted to the hospital and on-call emergency dental care for children. Our team of dentists has expertise in dentofacial growth and development, managing behavior for physically or medically challenged children in the dental environment, and dental public health issues affecting children.
