Bariatric Surgery

Connecticut Children’s Bariatric Surgery Program offers the adjustable gastric banding procedure and sleeve gastrectomy to select youth ages 14-19 who have a BMI of 40 or greater, or have a BMI of 35 with a medical co-morbidity.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a procedure using an artificial heart and lung to deliver oxygen to the body. This advanced technology replaces the function of vital organs in critically ill newborn babies and children of all ages. ECMO is a life-saving technique that provides support for newborns and children who have reversible cardiac or respiratory dysfunction. ECMO provides 24/7 support for neonatal and pediatric patients with a variety of medical conditions.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Connecticut Children’s offers treatment modalities for endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, as well as robotic surgery as part of our minimally invasive surgery program. Minimally invasive techniques and technology allow some procedures to be performed more quickly, with less pain, smaller scars, and a faster recovery time. Pediatric patients recovering from surgery receive personalized care from specialists in pain management, occupational and physical therapy, nutrition and other areas.

Pectus Excavatum

Connecticut Children’s Center for Chest Wall Deformities treats pediatric patients affected by Pectus Excavatum, Pectus Carinatum and other deformities of the chest wall. Connecticut Children’s is the only children’s hospital in the state to offer a center dedicated to chest wall deformities.

Trauma Center

Connecticut Children’s is designated as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center that evaluates and treats more than 56,000 children each year, with more than 15,000 children receiving care for injuries ranging from minor lacerations to life threatening multi-system injuries. Connecticut Children’s Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center is the busiest facility between Boston and New York.
