Dr. Hyams is one of the world’s leading experts in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He has led pivotal clinical trials of biological agents in these disorders and has directed a long-term natural history registry that has described the course of almost 2,000 children newly diagnosed with IBD. Dr. Hyams was the recent co-recipient of a $14 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (2023-2028) investigating the response of children newly diagnosed with Crohn's disease to standardized biological therapies, and is currently investigating the role of prebiotics in the maintenance of remission in IBD. He has received awards for his research and teaching by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition as well as the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He has worked with the FDA developing endpoints for pediatric clinical trials, and serves on the Rome Committee, an international research organization that investigates the course and treatment of functional GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional abdominal pain, abdominal migraine, and functional dyspepsia.

Dr. Hyams is head and shoulders above every other GI doctor we've seen. He was a good communicator, use this time to educate us. Listened and explain his reasoning. And then he explained the next steps with confidence. He went out of his way to coordinate with other careful riders, and even to give us a direct dial phone number. At the end of the visit, he gave us a detailed description of everything we discussed. I have never in my life experience such good service. This man is gold.

Dr. Hyams is the most down to earth and intelligent doctor I have ever had to work with. The care he shows for my son is unmatched. He doesn't treat him like he is sick, but as a friend he can talk about baseball and normal things. But his level of care and knowledge in his field set him above the rest. We are so grateful and thankful to have him as our son's Dr. He is doing great things and conducting great research in the pediatric IBD world.
