This individual is a community provider. Community providers have medical privileges to practice at Connecticut Children's, but they are independent providers who have been granted use of the hospital's facilities for the care and treatment of their patients. They schedule and bill separately for their services and are not employees or agents of Connecticut Children's or any of its entities. If you need assistance finding a Connecticut Children's doctor, please call 860.545.9000.

Dr. Hyams is one of the world’s leading experts in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He has led pivotal clinical trials of biological agents in these disorders and has directed a long-term natural history registry that has described the course of almost 2,000 children newly diagnosed with IBD. Dr. Hyams was the recent co-recipient of a $14 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (2023-2028) investigating the response of children newly diagnosed with Crohn's disease to standardized biological therapies, and is currently investigating the role of prebiotics in the maintenance of remission in IBD. He has received awards for his research and teaching by the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition as well as the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. He has worked with the FDA developing endpoints for pediatric clinical trials, and serves on the Rome Committee, an international research organization that investigates the course and treatment of functional GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional abdominal pain, abdominal migraine, and functional dyspepsia.
