John W. Stelzer, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon in the Division of Orthopedics at Connecticut Children’s. Dr. Stelzer specializes in the care of musculoskeletal conditions in children and adolescents, with particular expertise in the treatment of pediatric spinal deformities, such as scoliosis, and pediatric orthopedic trauma. 

Dr. Stelzer earned his medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and completed an orthopedic clinical research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Connecticut, where he received the Cavazos Award, recognized by his peers as the most outstanding resident. Dr. Stelzer went on to complete his pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and was selected for the Early-Career Surgeon Grant by the Safety in Spine Surgery Summit. 

He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to multiple textbook chapters, and participated in more than 50 national and international research presentations. He is actively involved in the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and serves as a reviewer for several pediatric orthopedic journals. In his free time, Dr. Stelzer enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and coaching youth sports.
