Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are powerful tools to enhance our understanding of disease etiology, injury epidemiology, and health promotion. GIS analysis allows visualization, management, and reporting of thematic data (e.g., demographic, epidemic, socioeconomic, environmental, and clinical data) under different geographic contexts. As many health-related conditions have a strong geographic component, spatial analysis using GIS and other geospatial technologies can be employed to identify their spatial patterns and associations with the built environment.
