Hospital Medicine Programs & Services A pediatric hospitalist may be thought of as a general pediatrician who works in a hospital and cares for infants, children and teens who have been admitted to Connecticut Children’s in Hartford, Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Danbury Hospital and Norwalk Hospital for a range of common or complex conditions, including: Apparent life threatening events Asthma Bronchiolitis Cellulitis Croup Dehydration Diagnostic dilemmas Eating disorders Failure to thrive Kawasaki disease Lead poisoning Multisystem disease Neonatal jaundice Newborn fever Pneumonia Pyelonephritis Viral gastroenteritis Bedside Care Hospitalists care for more all general pediatric inpatients and Connecticut Children’s provides special amenities to our patients and families that few other children’s hospitals can offer. In a kid-friendly environment, our pediatric inpatients stay in single rooms with private bathrooms including a shower and tub. Each room is designed for parents to room-in, staying close to their child during treatment and overnight. Pediatric hospitalist care includes: Bedside access to physicians who coordinate expert care within the hospital 24/7 availability and communication with pediatric physicians Familiarity with your child’s condition and course of treatment throughout a hospital stay Efficient, multispecialty care with better outcomes which are tracked daily Family-centered rounds in which the family member is involved in decision making At-home treatment plans developed in collaboration with your child’s pediatrician Once a child is ready to go home, Connecticut Children’s hospitalists ensure continuity of care with direct communication with their referring pediatrician.
