Occupational Therapy

Pediatric Occupational TherapistWith the goal of improving function, Connecticut Children’s Occupational Therapy (OT) department provides specialized treatment to children from birth to age 18 who are affected by serious injuries and illnesses, physical challenges, and developmental disabilities.

Our occupational therapists work with children and families, the multidisciplinary care team and community resources, focusing on a child’s recovery and ability to function within his or her everyday environment.

Based on a comprehensive assessment of a child’s physical, emotional and developmental needs, Connecticut Children’s occupational therapists develop personalized treatment plans that help children achieve increased independence by establishing or rehabilitating skills, such as:

  • Daily living skills (dressing, grooming, hygiene)
  • Eye/hand coordination and dexterity
  • Feeding
  • Fine motor skills
  • Pain management
  • Range of motion and strength
  • Sensory integration
