The Division of Pulmonary Medicine has several active research projects, supported by the National Institutes of Health, pharmaceutical companies and other private sources.
Clinical research projects conducted over the past year include:
- Studies of severe exacerbations in children with mild asthma
- Clinical comparison of allergic and non-allergic asthma in children
- Barriers to adherence in children with cystic fibrosis
- Evaluations of a novel potentiating compound and a new inhaled antibiotic in patients with cystic fibrosis
Basic science research is conducted at the University of Connecticut Health Center in collaboration the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Immunology.
Many of our research projects involve quality improvement (QI) activities, particularly within the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Program. Current cystic fibrosis-related QI projects include improving nutrition in children with cystic fibrosis and partnering with families to improve adherence with therapy.
