Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state, offers the most advanced imaging procedures available.
Our highly skilled, board-certified pediatric radiologists are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of childhood illnesses using equipment such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) to make images of inside the body.
Using state-of-the-art technology designed especially for infants, children and teens, Connecticut Children’s radiologists can obtain accurate, extremely detailed images while your child remains safe and comfortable.
The department of radiology at Connecticut Children’s adheres to the national Image Gently standards to limit radiation exposure to children while still providing safe, high quality pediatric imaging. Our team of radiologists and technologists provide comprehensive radiology and imaging services to help evaluate an array of pediatric conditions.
These services include:
- CT scans
- Interventional radiology
- Radiography (X-rays)
Our radiology technologists, nurses and physicians work with children every day and aim to make each child’s experience as comfortable as possible.
Although most procedures are painless, the large radiology and imaging equipment may be frightening to some children since some of the equipment may make unusual noises or confine patients to a small space. Children may listen to music during an MRI procedure to help stay calm. A certified Child Life specialist, who works exclusively in the radiology department, is also available to meet with anxious or scared children before radiology and imaging procedures to offer a distraction or coping skills.
Some imaging procedures, such as fluoroscopy and CT scans, require a child to remain still for a period of time until the test is complete. If sedation or general anesthesia is needed for your child’s imaging procedure, we will coordinate with those teams to provide sedation or anesthesia in a safe, child appropriate dosage.
