Audiologists at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center are part of a team with experience, specialized training and specialized equipment that supports comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and intervention for Hearing and Vestibular / Balance concerns. Our audiologists specialize in working with patients from birth to young adult.

During evaluation, our audiologists will:

  • Choose an individualized battery of audiology tests based on your child’s reason for referral, individual history, test results, and responsiveness during testing
  • Determine if your child has a hearing loss or vestibular disorder
  • Measure the type and severity of any problem

Should a hearing loss or balance disorder be identified our audiologists have the skills, equipment and resources needed to provide:

  • Information on hearing, hearing loss, and vestibular/balance concerns
  • Evaluation to monitor for changes in hearing or balance
  • Assistance with hearing aids and/or cochlear implants
  • Connections with other services including: medical specialists, speech and language pathologists, balance rehabilitation provided by physical therapists, and early intervention services

Evaluation Services

  • Administration and interpretation of measures to assess and monitor hearing acuity in patients at risk for hearing loss

Auditory Electrophysiological Studies

  • Brainstem auditory evoked response testing (sedated and nonsedated)
  • Auditory steady state response (ASSR) testing

Vestibular and Balance Program

Behavioral Audiometry

  • Visual reinforcement audiometry
  • Conditioned play audiometry
  • Extended high frequency audiometry

Newborn Hearing Screening

Immittance Testing

  • Tympanometry
